A PRECISION QUALITY COMPANY

John M Tucker (1903-1986), the founder of Precision Laboratories, was a native Cincinnatian who spent his entire life in the area. After two years at Hughes High School, family needs forced him to find work, but he attended evening classes at Ohio Mechanics Institute and U.C. for twelve years, taking only math and science courses.

At Tucker Research Laboratories, he manufactured a dry cleaning spotting agent from 1926-28, but stopped production due to his concerns about its safe use. He then became the first employee of the old Coleman and Bell Company.

On January 1, 1932 Precision Laboratories was founded in the basement of John Tucker’s home. A few years later, a building was constructed at the rear of the property for the growing business, and in the 1950’s it was doubled in size. He left Coleman and Bell in 1944 to devote himself full time to his business. Service, quality and fair treatment of customers led to the company’s success. John was a pioneer in the employment of the handicapped, home contractors and students.

His son, John E Tucker, became owner in 1963 and the business was moved to Reading, Ohio and incorporated April 1, 1981. Although still by choice a small, one-man operation with part-time employees, continued growth and increased government regulations would have forced expansion. Rather than change, the decision was made to sell, and on July 1, 1986, Howard Kimel, founder of Kemtec Educational Corporation purchased Precision Laboratories, thus ending 54 years of family ownership.

Today, Precision Laboratories is one of the leaders in the development of test strips for the areas of: sanitation, pH, aquariums and pool systems.
Precision products are distributed throughout the world by many of the leading scientific distributors.
